What the Word Player Is
Besides the seven training modes, WordByWord.io has a quicker, calmer way to review vocabulary — flashcards. Click any term in a collection and it opens as a card you can flip through the whole set with. No answers, no timer: just you and the words, the way classic paper flashcards work.
Player Features
- Autoplay — cards advance on their own; sit back and listen.
- Shuffle — randomizes the order so you memorize words, not their sequence.
- Infinite loop — the deck repeats until you stop, useful for background listening practice.
- Fullscreen mode — nothing on screen but the card.
- Card settings — choose what each card shows and voices: the term, the translation, or both. Hide the translation to test yourself before flipping.
Marking Your Progress
While flipping through cards you can change a word's learning status on the spot. If a card feels instantly familiar, mark it — the SRS algorithm takes the new status into account when scheduling reviews in training modes.
When to Use Flashcards Instead of Trainings
- First pass over new material. Flip through a fresh collection once before your first training session — the exercises will feel noticeably easier.
- Passive review. Autoplay with voiceover works even when you can't type or click: cooking, commuting, walking.
- Pre-training warm-up. Two minutes of cards before a Typing session refreshes the set in your memory.
Flashcards don't replace trainings — active recall in exercises is what builds long-term memory. But as a light supplement between sessions, they fit perfectly.
